Well, this is it, George’s first Blog post!!
As his proud owners, we thought we would give him his second adventure as a newly converted
VW Camper Van. He’s only been to Runswick Bay so far, so a trip to the Dales was in order.
We took off into the Yorkshire dales and did our own little Tour De Yorkshire ………. We pitched up at Old Hall Campsite in the picturesque village of Hawdraw 1.6 miles from beautiful Hawes , England’s highest market town !!
The site was beautiful, tranquil fabulous scenery all around and situated alongside the river. We pitched in less than 15 mins, roof up, awning out, bunting billowing in the wind and then the all-important fizz was duly popped!! Salmon cooked for tea ……. perfect!!
Direct from the site you can walk to Hawes in approx. half an hour, it’s a lovely walk through fields and along the river, plenty of welcoming pubs and cafes to keep you occupied once you arrive.
We were going to wander to the local pub The Green Dragon Inn which is home to the famous Hawdraw Force Waterfall , but to be honest we were so chilled at the site we decided to stay put , pour the G&T’S enjoy a tasty BBQ, good tunes and a game or 2 of scrabble. We have visited Hawdraw many times, so we didn’t feel like we were missing out too much, but can recommend a visit as it is truly magical and stunning.
After waking up to glorious views from the comfy pop up, we ate yet more yummy food, then said a fond farewell to Hardraw. Climbing up over Buttertubs pass we crossed from Wensleydale to Swaledale and stopped at Reeth for a wander ,Ice cream and the most stunning view across Fremington edge .There wasn’t time for walking today , but having previously completed this walk with friends can recommend this as a fantastic day walk.
After leaving sunny Swaledale we crossed back into Richmondshire and stopped for another wander around Leyburn to finish off our adventure before heading home.
All in all, we can honestly say we had a very chilled weekend with George, although we are biased of course!! Stay tuned for his next adventure, perhaps it could be yours too!!
